  • The disappointment that was Team USA
  • The befuddlement that is Nino Niederreiter’s ice time for Team Europe
  • The intrigue that comes with Tomas Fleischmann’s tryout with the Wild
  • The further disappointment that was the Wild’s week at Traverse City
  • What to expect from the upcoming training camp

As well as

  • First-time parenting advice for a member of the Wilderness

We’re back! It’s been a month-long absence for the show and we’re trying to podcast our way back into shape. Joining Tony for this episode are Hockey Wilderness writers Barry Campbell and Aaron Holm, and the three get you caught up on a not-all-that-busy August.

They discussed at length whether or not the Wild improved their team significantly this offseason, and chatted about other topics as well, such as:

  • Patrick Roy’s departure from Colorado
  • Let’s Go Crazy now being confirmed as the next goal song in Minnesota
  • Ryan Carter getting a tryout with the Wild
  • Zach Parise’s back, Back Parise
  • Joel Eriksson Ek’s chances to make the Wild
  • Everything you need to know about playing the off-wing
  • Embarrassing ourselves with our awful Sean Connery impersonations

And much, much more.

We’ve now hit August, and while the offseason slowed down, the Hockey Wilderness Podcast is still going strong! We brought in special guest Panda Pete of the Twins and Losses podcast to chat with Tory and Tony to discuss the Wild, the shake-up in the Twins’ front office, and our shared love of Pokemon Go!

Topics include:

  • Matt Dumba’s new 2-year, 5.1 million contract
  • The Wild mulling over a goal song change from Joe Satriani’s “Crowd Chant” to Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy”
  • How far will the Wild go in the playoffs with their current roster
  • Who has the tougher road to staying competitive: the Twins or Wild?
  • Terry Ryan’s dismissal- Will they give the job to interim GM Rob Antony or an outside candidate?
  • Is Paul Molitor’s job with the organization safe?
  • Our experiences with Pokemon Go
  • Looking ahead to Pokemon’s new main series game, Pokemon Sun and Moon

And much more!

The 2016 Minnesota Wild Prospect Development Camp is in the books! Tony (@OhHiTony) was unable to attend this year, so he went out and found some people who did to talk about it! He was joined by Joe Bouley (@JoeBou15), Dustin Nelson (@DLukeNelson), and newcomer Tory Palattao (@Finnesotan12) to break down everything you need to know about PDC, and (if we’re being honest) some things you didn’t even need to know!

Topics include:

  • Darcy Kuemper re-signs for 1 year, $1.55M, becoming an Unrestricted Free Agent next summer. Is this the beginning of his exit?
  • Reflecting on how Kuemper found himself on his way out of the organization
  • Was waiving Jordan Schroeder a smart negotiation ploy or just pettiness on Minnesota’s part?
  • The Wild flip-flopping on the idea of trading Dumba as his contract discussions progress
  • How much money does Dumba really deserve coming off his Entry-Level Contract?
  • Da Beauty League
  • Sam Anas, Joel Eriksson Ek, and Alex Tuch skated together at Prospect Camp. Does that indicate the Wild feel they’re the prospects most likely to make the roster?
  • Can Anas’ skills translate into the pro game?
  • How close is Eriksson Ek to being NHL ready?
  • Our first impressions of Luke Kunin
  • Have we been underrating Nick Seeler?
  • Is the Carson Soucy hype train in Duluth too much?
  • Do we know more about Hungarian goalie prospect Ádám Vay than we did last year?
  • Were you aware?: Louie Belpedio and Braydyn Chizen have something in common. Find out what!
  • Who had the best hair at prospect camp?
  • How Arnold Schwarzenegger gave Tony his worst hangover ever.

It was a big week for the Minnesota Wild, so the Hockey Wilderness Podcast responded with an appropriately big podcast discussing all of the big news that hit during the free agency opener.

Barry, Joe, and Tony sat down to discuss:

  • Jason Zucker re-signing with the Wild. Was $2M/year too much for him?
  • How will Zucker’s deal inform the Wild’s negotiations with Matt Dumba?
  • Whether the Wild signing Alex Stalock actually matters
  • Why signing Eric Staal for 3 years, $10.5M was the best move the Wild could’ve made this weekend
  • Trying to find fault in the Chris Stewart contract (we can’t)
  • Why aren’t the Wild signing Matt Cullen?
  • No, I mean, like, seriously. Just sign that guy already.
  • Have the Wild improved their position in the Central Division? We look at how the balance of power shifted
  • Will P.K. Subban make that much of a difference in Nashville?
  • Can a Nino Niederreiter extension be on the horizon?

and much, much more!

* Do the Wild have something in 4th-round prospect Brandon Duhaime?

* Why it's out-of-character, but welcome, for the Wild to draft Dmitry Sokolov

* P.K. Subban traded to the Central Division- how will he fit in Nashville?

* Taylor Hall traded to New Jersey for Adam Larsson. Does this make sense?

* Could the Wild have gotten in on Hall?

* Looking at Minnesota's lack of trade activity

The 2016 NHL Draft is almost here, and there’s no one better to prepare us for Draft Weekend like ESPN.com’s Corey Pronman!

The prospect guru sits down with Tony and they discuss the draft from a Minnesota Wild perspective.

Topics include:

  • Why players Corey was very high on (Mikael Granlund, Jonas Brodin, Matt Dumba) haven’t turned out like Wild fans thought.
  • Joel Eriksson Ek raising his stock over past season
  • Why Kirill Kaprizov might be the best Wild prospect in the system
  • Drafting the best player available vs. Drafting for need
  • Kieffer Bellows’ potential- and potential to land in a Wild uniform
  • Mid-round prospects that would fit well in Minnesota
  • Minnesotans that might go in the first round
  • How high-school tournament sensation Casey Middlestadt could go in the 2017 Draft
