Hockey Wilderness Podcast- A Minnesota Wild Podcast

Some notable firsts this week! John Torchetti won his first game for the Wild, then rattled off three more. The Wild won their first Stadium Series game this weekend. And for the first time in the two-year history of the Hockey Wilderness Podcast, we recorded the podcast in the same room!

After an insane week for the Wild that saw them fire their coach, climb back into the playoff race, and knock around the Blackhawks in an outdoor game, Barry, Chris, Joe, and Tony assembled at a conference table to discuss everything that happened including:

  • The Wild’s sweep of Western Canada
  • What’s different about this team under Torchetti
  • Whether the Wild’s offensive output indicates the team quit on Yeo
  • Re-living the North Stars during the Alumni Game
  • Checking up on some of our favorite Wild Alumni
  • The atmosphere at the Stadium Series
  • Erik Haula’s resurgence
  • Coach Q pulling the goalie with 7 minutes left
  • The Rozsival-on-Zucker hit

And an absurd amount of fun stories!

Definitely not a slow news week at the Hockey Wilderness Podcast! Less than 24 hours after the Wild fired Mike Yeo, Tony, Joe, Aaron, and Alec sat down to discuss the firing, and all it’s fallout, including:

  • Was this the right time to make a coaching change?
  • What went wrong for Mike Yeo
  • Whether Yeo given a fair shake by the front office
  • Why Chuck Fletcher escaped the firing line
  • What we expect to see from interim coach John Torchetti
  • Some very cold remarks from Thomas Vanek
  • Who the Wild could look to trade at the deadline

And much, much more!

The “Big Super Bowl Game” pushed delayed this week’s podcast, but after heathy scratching Joe, Tony sat down with Chris and Jack to discuss all the happenings with the Minnesota Wild, including:

  • Mike Yeo healthy scratching Jason Zucker and Thomas Vanek
  • Whether there truly is accountability on this team
  • The ideal power play lineup for the Wild
  • Jonas Brodin’s broken foot
  • Whether the Wild can still make a trade without Brodin
  • Which defensive prospect do we think will make an impact down the stretch
  • Goalie poops

And much, much more!

After the All-Star Game, Tony, Joe, Aaron, and Jack sat down to discuss the game, and the very painful struggles of the Minnesota Wild. But don’t worry! There’s plenty of laughs, spontaneous beatboxing, and we even respond to some listener questions!

Here’s what we covered:

  • What (surprisingly) worked about the All-Star Game
  • John Scott’s MVP weekend
  • The limitations of Mike Yeo
  • First-half MVPs
  • Who needs to step it up in the second half? (No one says Jason Pominville!!!)
  • Why reports of tension in the locker room might not be that big of a deal
  • Is it a problem that Devan Dubnyk was Minnesota’s only All-Star representative?
  • Will the Wild make the playoffs?
  • And much more!
